Senior Technical Officer

We are currently seeking a Senior Technical Officer to join our team at the Mt Stromlo (Canberra) Satellite Laser Ranging (SLR) Facility. 

This role will appeal to a "hands on" person who enjoys exposure to varying technical challenges and who is able to quickly learn, understand and operate new equipment and software applications.

If you have a fascination with satellites, astronomy and/or the aerospace industry and activities plus skills in software, electronic, optical and/or mechanical systems and a passion for excellence and problem solving then this could be the position for you.

Responsibilities 

  • After appropriate training, track satellites according to station procedures
  • Ensure that processed data is dispatched to clients in a timely manner and in accordance with contractual obligations
  • Note variations from normal station operations and report these in an appropriate way and in a timely manner
  • Provide support for routine reporting and data management
  • Support operational activities to ensure a high level of data quality and productivity with minimal supervision.
  • Being prepared to work alone and at night on regular and irregular basis
  • Provide technical trouble shooting and repairs as required
  • Assist with preventative maintenance and servicing of the equipment and facility
  • Provide customer technical support
  • Provide and supporting development, upgrade and installation of system facilities, applications and procedures
  • Maintain the EOS quality management system to full compliance with ISO 9001:2008 and other relevant standards
  • Assist with station maintenance and cleanliness
  • Other duties as directed by the Station Manager

Skills and Experience

Ideally you will have the following:

  • A relevant certificate/degree/diploma or equivalent (mandatory)
  • "C" class drivers licence and daily access to private transport (mandatory)
  • Background in software, electronic or embedded systems development and an appropriate level of mechanical and electrical skills
  • Ability to follow instructions and be self-motivated
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and a friendly professional manner to deal with customers worldwide
  • Team orientated

****Salary will be commensurate with experience****
